Church of Christ voted to divest from Israel

~comparto este comunicado~ Dear David, This is huge. By an incredible 80% margin, the United ’s nearly 50 year occupation of Palestine, and to boycott products made in settlements. This vote by the UCC, which represents almost one million Christians, sends a clear message: faith communities are standing up, speaking out, and taking action for peace and justice. If you’d told me last year that over 80% of UCC delegates would vote to divest from the occupation, I’d have said that was impossible. But that’s what happened -- thanks to the courage of UCC leaders and the growing grassroots interfaith movement we’re building together. We know the backlash will be fierce, and we can’t afford to be complacent. Our opponents will say that divestment harms interfaith relationships -- but we know that's not true. Supporting each other to align our values and actions is the very heart of what interfaith relationships should be.  Let’s make our voices heard, and show that we support this historic decision of our brothers and sisters in the UCC. I’m in absolute awe of the people I've met here in Cleveland: the UCC Palestine-Israel Network who organized their own communities for divestment, and the brave UCC delegates who debated how to best turn their belief that the occupation is unjust into concrete action that can support those living under it.  Their moral clarity, and their commitment to turn their faith into action are like nothing I’d ever seen before. The UCC Palestine Israel Network said it best: the days of “praying for peace and paying for occupation” are over. The time for action is now -- and taking action is exactly what the UCC did today. Last year, we talked and prayed with our allies in the Presbyterian Church as they aligned their values with their investments by divesting from Israel. This week, we did the same, and now another major religious body has made it clear that they won’t profit from the persecution of Palestinians. The UCC has taken a brave step forward for justice, and we need to have their back.  Some people say that progress is impossible. Some people say that the Israel lobby is too powerful. Israel Bíblico vs Estado de Israel

La Iglesia Presbiteriana de los E.U. instruyó a sus clérigos y miembros a reconocer que la “Tierra de Israel” en términos bíblicos y litúrgicos no es lo mismo que el “Estado de Israel establecido en 1948, la cual es un estado nacional contemporáneo.

La palabra contiene mandamientos que contradicen a la política actual del Estado de Israel de hoy.

La promesa de una tierra contiene obligaciones con Dios para que la justicia sea practicada con todos sus habitantes por igual.

El trato del Estado contra los Palestinos primariamente y otros grupos incluyendo a cristianos incumple con el mandato de Dios. Es por esto que la iglesia Presbiteriana no reconoce el estado de Israel actual como continuación del Israel bíblico. 

A continuación la resolución como quedó aprobada y las acciones que la iglesia tomaría:

There was a resolution that was considered by the Presbyterian Church USA that did not pass, but the comments to that resolution show that they took it very seriously:

The Presbytery of Chicago overtures the 221st General Assembly (2014) of the Presbyterian Church, (U.S.A.), to:

1. Distinguish between the biblical terms that refer to the ancient land of Israel and the modern political State of Israel;

2. Develop educational materials, with the help of our Presbyterian seminaries, for clergy, church musicians, worship leaders, and Christian educators regarding the “ancient Israel/modern Israel” distinction; and

3. Inform our ecumenical partners of this action, nationally and globally—particularly within Israel and Palestine.

Must Christians support Israels actions in Gaza?

Must Christians support Israels actions in Gaza even when they take God as an excuse to murder Children and woman?

By any means no.

Not just because they reject Jesus but its important to know what that implies.

The Jews rejected Jesus because He failed, in their eyes, to do what they expected their Messiah to do:

Destroy evil and all their enemies and establish an eternal kingdom with Israel as the preeminent nation in the world. (this is there goal)

The prophecies in Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22 describe a suffering Messiah who would be persecuted and killed, but the Jews chose to focus instead on those prophecies that discuss His glorious victories, not His crucifixion.

The commentaries in the Talmud, written before the onset of Christianity, clearly discuss the Messianic prophecies of Isaiah 53 and Psalm 22 and puzzle over how these would be fulfilled with the glorious setting up of the kingdom of the Messiah. After the church used these prophecies to prove the claims of Christ, the Jews took the position that the prophecies did not refer to the Messiah, but to Israel.

They reject all others who don't think like them including Christians and Muslims.

Christians should NOT to support Israel NOR to condemn it; nor any other people. But our moral imperative as people of faith permit us to judge them for there wrong doings and sins.

As Christians when it comes to the atrocities been committed by Israel in Gaza we can condemn and should.
